What is Hand Reflexology?
If you talk about reflexology, far most people associate this massage technique with pressure points on the feet.
Hand reflexology may not be as popular as foot reflexology. But hand reflexology certainly provides some benefits compared to foot reflexology.
Our hands for example are much more accessible than feet so they make a great self-help tool for adults and children.
Some people may consider hand reflexology to be a new practice but, in fact, both hand reflexology and foot reflexology have been used as part of medical care since as far back as the ancient Egyptian and classic Chinese times.
Hand reflexology adheres to the same theories and techniques that foot reflexology does. A mirror image of the body is reflected on the hands which creates a micro-map of each organ, gland and part. Stimulation of these points will promote relaxation, improved circulation and encourage the body to heal itself. So quite literally you have your health at your fingertips.
Recently, however, the popularity of hand reflexology has grown with the increase in hand-use intensive activities such as: gaming, key boarding, Blackberrys, and texting, because hand reflexology provides a relieving respite in the hand's busy day.
Hand reflexology especially provides a relief from the new stresses technology has placed on our hands.

Hand Reflexology: 'Do-it-yourself'!!!
Your 10-minute hand reflexology self treatment starts with step 1 - pinching the tips of each finger and thumb of your right hand.
The pressure applied to your fingers should be firm, but not painful. A few seconds for each finger tip will do.
The following step is to repeat this process on your left hand.
The next steps include: step 2 - pinching the sides of your finger tips; step 3 - vigorous finger rubbing; step 4 - more vigorous finger rubbing: tops and bottoms and also rubbing the sides of your fingers;
step 5 - finger tugging: grasp each finger (and thumb) at its base and tug firmly; step 6 - pinch and pull the webbed areas between your fingers; step 7 - massage the top of your hand with your thumb;
step 8 - massage your inner wrists; step 9 - massage the palm of your hand; and step 10 - centering by your thumb deeply in the center of your palm.
By the way, not every reflexologist receives training in hand reflexology! When looking for a reflexologist you should really ask if he/she is trained in hand reflexology.
